Why we don't count calories, grams, or any other such measurements. & Why we don't track vitamins, minerals or protein.

Previously posted on my FB wall...

Blaine asked me recently if Hartzler's made skim milk...sigh. One of the benefits of our

lifestyle is that we don't count calories, cholesterol, carbs, fat, protein, or anything else.

There is no need. We eat a variety of whole, vegetarian, unprocessed, real

foods...nothing artificial. None of our foods contain chemicals or empty fillers. This

eliminates a butt load of foods, leaving only whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and limited

dairy products. Within those foods, we make the healthiest choices. So, every single part

of every food we consume is able to work to our body's benefit. We don't consume

chemicals that are stealing valuable nutrients from us, or that hamper those nutrients. We

drastically limit added sugars, primarily using pure maple syrup & honey, and using only

pure cane sugar otherwise. We are very aware and cautious with regards to GMOs and

pesticides, buying nonGMO and organic when available. In other words, all we consume

are vitamins & minerals that are beneficial to us...why on Earth would we need skim milk?

Again I sigh...because guidelines with regards to what we should eat or avoid, how much

of it we should eat, and the information "they" generally give is aimed at the way the

majority of Americans eat...we are not the majority. It is information to help limit the

fats, calories, etc consumed, because fried, processed foods are so laden with those

things already, and comprise the bulk of American diets. "They" also offer guidelines on

what you should eat/supplements to take, to replace those not found/not effective in

processed foods. That's why we don't need skim milk, but not necessarily why we use

Hartzler's Whole Milk.  (See this post for why we choose Hartzler's.)

I've explained this to Blaine many times, for a variety of reasons. He is still thinking inside

the box a bit. He's coming around, both legs are out of the box and he's sitting on the

edge. Perhaps if I give him a gentle bump with a bottle of whole milk...
