Whew...I work on Wednesday, and today was a long day. Anyways, as many of you know, I use the opportunity to grab some things that I can't get here at home. On these mid-week shopping trips, I usually always buy milk (Hartzler's), organic spinach, multiple heads of artisan lettuce, oranges, apples, bread, & pizza dough. Well, we have plenty of the other things, so I only bought bread and pizza dough. We only eat two brands of bread in this house on a regular basis...Whole Foods & Great Harvest Bread Company. Wednesday is Great Harvest day. :) YUM!
So, here are my goodies for this week...
See why I love Great Harvest??
*The bread is absolutely delicious, and only contains ingredients that I would use in my own kitchen!*
*No refined white sugar.*
*They grind their whole wheat berries into fresh flour daily.*
*Their white flour is unbleached and unbromated.*
*No GMOs!*
I buy a loaf of Honey Whole Wheat every Wednesday, and I also get a loaf of something yummy for us to have with our Wednesday night pasta dinner. It's been Asiago Pesto for the last two weeks.
The Lemon Blueberry is a special treat bread. :)
Here is my other Great Harvest favorite...pizza dough!
I buy 2 of these every week for Friday night pizza. These are only $2.00 each! They are delicious, and are all natural...nothing funky! Just sit it out to thaw, roll out, & bake!
If you've never been to GH, stop in for a free slice of bread, and maybe grab a loaf or two to take home. You won't regret it!
This is what my kiddos took for lunch...
Leftover homemade black beans from taco night (the beans also have chopped red & green bell peppers, garlic, and carrots in them) topped with fresh shredded cheese, brown rice, 1/2 organic apple, chopped tomatoes (1st gr), organic cucumber sticks (kind.), & 1 1/2 of my homemade corn tortillas each (nonGMO Masa Harina).
Now for those kale chips...
I cannot tell you how yummy these were! The whole family loved them, and my 1st grader even took them to school for his snack!
I gave them a good washing. Here they are drying.
Once dry, I tore them into small-ish pieces, tossed them in a bowl w/ a drizzle of oil (I used nonGMO expeller pressed canola) and a sprinkle of sea salt.
I then spread them out on baking sheets. I baked them in small batches at 375 degrees. Each batch took 8-10 minutes, but I checked them and rotated them every 2 minutes. As they got crispy, I removed them. The larger pieces took longer, of course.
Here they are, the finished product. YUM! YUM! YUM!
SO simple, and so inexpensive compared to the ones in the store. Those are $5.99-$7.99 a package! YIKES! I'm pretty sure these only cost me a little over $1 to make. :)
I can't wait to make more!
